The Three Rivers Festival is excited to announce a return to the rivers in 2011! On Sunday, July 10th, RiverGames presented by Frontier Communications, brings three great fun-filled events: First, “The Great Canoe Race” is a family event that starts at the Wells Street Bridge, races down the Saint Mary’s, then back again to the Bridge.
Participants are invited to bring their own canoe, or rent one on-site. As the excitement builds, canoes gather under the Wells Street Bridge, some folks are in costume, some with decorated canoes, and everyone eager with anticipation to start this race.
On top of the bridge, crowds gather to cheer on friends and family. The Fort Wayne Depot acts as a backdrop along the banks of the Saint Mary’s, with plenty of room for spectators. With all the racers in place, the cannon sounds a thundering “BOOM!” and the race is on!
Prizes will be given for more than just speed. There will be prizes for best decorated canoe and the ugliest canoe, plus best costumes or theme. This great new event will be a huge draw for participants and spectators, bringing the Three Rivers Festival back to the rivers …and we are just getting started!
Entry Fee: $10 per paddler (canoe rental optional)
Up next, for adventurous racers, it’s the “Summit City Soaker.” This exciting canoe race uses the route from the Wells Street Bridge to Harrison Bridge, yet is packed with obstacles to weave through, flags to retrieve, giant cascades of water to navigate, and watch out for snipers armed with water balloon launchers! Fun challenges will make this the wettest, fastest race the Festival has ever seen!
Entry Fee: $20 per team (2 persons required), canoe rental included
The final event of RiverGames presented by Frontier Communications takes us back to Headwaters Park East, where 3-person teams go head-to-head with Water Balloon Launchers! On the water between the Wells Street and Harrison Street bridges. Teams will aim for their opponent's target on the river.
Entry Fee: $30 per team (3 persons required) - Water Balloons & Launcher provided
RiverGames presented by Frontier Communications offers a full afternoon of exciting family-friendly fun, with bragging rights, trophies and prizes for the wet ‘n wild winners. Don't miss out! |
